Concept is a Wellington-based painting and decorating company specialising in quality residential work.  Established in 1997 the owners, Peter and Kath May, have grown the company from a small one-man band to a company with a number of dedicated painting professionals.  Our excellent reputation is based on the conviction that we are only as good as our last job.  Every job is undertaken with attention to detail and pride in the finished product.

Concept has found its niche within the character home renovation market.  An abundance of these grand old ladies are found in Wellington. It takes a certain skill set to strip them back to bare timbers and start afresh with new coatings.  As the majority of character properties within the Wellington region are around the 100-year-old mark it is more often a case of restoring rather than just painting them.  For exterior work, there may be rotten weatherboards, rusting flashings and nail heads, and faulty window action.  These can all be remedied by Concept, if not by ourselves, then by using our network of qualified tradespeople. 

Many of Wellington’s older homes are coated with lead-based primers.  The removal of this paint system can be hazardous if not properly managed.  As standard practice, Concept uses a chemical (wet) paint removal system which mitigates the risk of airborne lead.  The lead is contained using plastic troughs and sheeting and then disposed in an environmentally responsible manner.

Whilst we have found a niche working with character homes, this is not exclusive, and we have been involved in projects including art deco properties, classic Kiwi sixties and seventies homes, and the more modern architectural designs of the eighties, nineties and noughties.  They all have their uniqueness.  Concept has been operating long enough within the local market to have learned the best practice and the most efficient and effective way of dealing with different dwelling types.    We have also been involved in effective remedial work for water ingress on texture-coated properties.
